The purpose of this project is to identify and map the ancient shorelines of Lake Minchumina , central Alaska . During and after these shorelines have been mapped, strategic locations on the landscape will be selected to test for archaeological materials. Our working hypothesis is that late Pleistocene/early Holocene aged sites will be located on these relic shorelines and that a large (possibly Pleistocene in age) fresh water lake would have been an attractive location for early humans to live in central Alaska.
